The four-month, evening training course is designed to be the "boot camp" for the environmental field. The course provides technical training for those scientists, engineers and others wishing to establish or improve technical skills in:

  • Environmental Regulations
  • Site Characterizations
  • Investigations
  • Clean-up Programs

The course was designed for individuals who have decided on a career change and are "refugees" from the oil & gas industry, aerospace industry and other industries experiencing corporate downsizing and reorganization. Other highly-motivated individuals have gained substantially from this course; a college education is a suggested prerequisite.

Almost 400 men and women have graduated from the program, most of whom have improved their positions or have found employment in the environmental field, even under the present uncertainties in Washington, D.C., concerning the environment.

Topics include:

Environmental Laws & Regulations
Health &d Safety Strategies & Requirements
Environmental Chemistry & Geochemistry
Site Characterizations & Investigations
Geologic Sampling Protocols, Techniques & Methods
Hydrogeology, Aquifer Testing & Modeling
Contaminant Transport & Modeling
Remediation Case Histories
Risk Assessment & Clean-up Criteria
Conceptual Engineering & Methods
Remediation Engineering & Innovative Technologies
Project Management, Placement Review & Interview Preparation
and Other Topics...

Advanced courses are designed for graduates of the IET program and for members of the local Houston environmental community. The courses concentrate on topics introduced in the Environmental Technology course. They will be offered in three- to five-day evening formats with Saturday and Sunday being considered for special "Weekend Training Courses."

Advanced Environmental Chemistry
Advanced Environmental Regulations: Federal & State
Advanced Environmental Geology
Advanced Environmental Hydrogeology
Advanced Environmental Geophysics
Advanced Remediation Design by specific topic, such as: Soil Vapor Extraction, Pump-and-Treat Programs and many other remediation techniques of current interest.
